Positively Putney work closely with a number of departments within the Metropolitan Police to help reduce crime and anti-social behaviour. This includes the Thamesfield Safer Neighbourhood team, the Fulham Football Police Officer, the Counter Terroism team, and the licensing team. We also work with Wandsworth Council’s Community Safety team. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2023 we will be launching the Wandsworth Business Against Crime app to help businesses share information and combat business crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We organise a range of crime reducing workshops for businesses including Counter terroism, counterfeit notes, fake ID’s, and Violence Against Women. If you are interested in attending one please contact Ciara for future dates. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Putney boasts a fantastic selection of bars, restaurants and pubs. To help manage this thriving night time economy, Positively Putney manage a Pubwatch scheme. These meetings are held quarterly and are attended by the Police Licensing Sergeant, the Football Public Disorder Officer and the local PC ward officers. The meetings focus on the discussion and dissemination of intelligence to assist tackling anti-social behaviour and other local issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have contracted with\u00a0Clean It 24-7, the two-person team pressure wash Putney\u2019s pavements to remove the dirt and grime of everyday life and remove chewing gum. They systematically work around the BID area with particular focus on cleaning local \u2018grot spots\u2019 such as by Putney train station, by bus stops, and bins. They clean in the evening and through the night so you may never see them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These cleans improve the look of Putney town centre. Although Wandsworth Council regularly sweep the streets, Clean It help keep the pavements looking better. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In April 23, we smartened up vacant units on Putney High Street and Putney Bridge Road with Putney in the Past vinyls displaying beautiful historic images sourced from Wandsworth Heritage Service, modern images provided by Andrew Wilson, or Positively Putney photography. We also maintain the planters outside the old Marks and Spencers site. During the Coronation celebrations children painted wooden letters that spelt out Putney and they are displayed on those planters. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 22 we organised a Queen\u2019s Platinum Jubilee art project with local schools and had such a great response we covered three sites with the wonderful pictures. These brought joy to the units and the children brought their parents into the town centre to view them. For details click here<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We would rather occupied units but whilst we do have vacant units we work with the landlords to minimise the impact, covering the empty units with artwork, vinyls or planting. Putney was awarded a silver in the London in Bloom awards in 2023, a silver Gilt in the London in Bloom awards in 2021, and 2022. The awards are not as the name suggests just about pretty flowers but also looking after the environment and the community involvement in an area. The three areas for marking are horticulture (maintenance, seasonal, plant quality), environment (local identity, built environment, environmental quality), and community (year round activity, communication and awareness, support and funding). Each element is marked out of 10 totalling 90 with up to a final ten points for overall impression. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We support businesses to become more sustainable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2019 we launched our reusable cup scheme to hospitality businesses in advance of Boat Race day 2019. These cups were then used throughout the summer when serving outside. It is recommended that each cup can last for 50 washes and we continued to restock them as required. In March 2023 we distributed 13,000 cups across Putney town centre.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is a well-known fact that Putney has poor air quality. To make Putney a more desirable town to visit, Positively Putney is working hard alongside central Government, Wandsworth Council, the Mayor for London and Transport for London to improve the quality of air in the town centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To encourage people to walk or cycle to work instead of using cars, we have produced Putney Cycling Guide\u00a0which covers all the issues to make cycling to work a possibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

Positively Putney are also working to improve traffic flow through Putney by monitoring traffic lights and other obstacles, as well as encouraging drivers to switch off their engines when waiting at traffic lights. These methods ensure that Putney\u2019s employees, shoppers, visitors and locals can breathe healthier and cleaner air.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2020, Positively Putney worked with Wandsworth Council to install parklets along Putney High Street. Aside from providing greenery to the High Street, they also allow locals to rest, eat their lunch and watch the world go by. Always looking for opportunities to increase greening in Putney town centre. Positively Putney maintain the planters outside the old M&S on Putney High Street, on Church Square, and Lacy Road. These plants improve the look of the area as well as improving the air quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the summer of 2023 we installed 10 beautiful tower planters to brighten up the town centre. These will be replaced in the Autumn for Winter plants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2020 Positively Putney funded the installation of the parklet in Felsham Road. This breaks up the hard landscape of Putney High Street and provides a space for people to sit, relax and eat their lunch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2022 we successfully secured funding and support from Greater London Authority<\/a> under the Business Climate Challenge (BCC) to help businesses reduce energy bills and cut carbon emissions. This was a unique opportunity for Positively Putney members to start to future-proof their businesses against rising energy prices and help London become net zero. Twenty businesses within Putney were provided with an energy audit worth an estimated \u00a36,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The BCC supported businesses to commit to reducing their workplace energy consumption by at least 10% in a year. They received expert support including:
\u2022 a workplace audit identifying ways to reduce energy use
\u2022 bespoke recommendations including \u2018quick wins\u2019 for energy conservation, deeper retrofits, and a roadmap of actions to reach net zero emissions
\u2022 training sessions for relevant staff
\u2022 peer-sharing with other participating businesses<\/p>\n\n\n\n
